The usc: Alive and Kicking

The ‘Universitaire sport centrum’, USC for short, broadened its martial arts offer! This year, USC opened a boxing school for all kinds of people who are passionate or eager to learn boxing and kickboxing.

The project started this October as a result of a collaboration between USC and the Amsterdam Municipality, which reached an agreement to lend space for 8 years to the gym, with the goal to create a community hall for youth.

Meet Mick, who raised 2600 euros for Ukraine

Mick, an employer at Universitair Sportcentrum (USC), walked 60.7 kilometres from Amsterdam to the International Court of Human Justice in The Hague in solidarity with Ukrainian refugees. Mick did not actually go to The Hague though, he completed the walk on a USC treadmill. With this, Mick raised 2600 euros for the charity organisation Giro 555.

You’re probably busy enough just passing all your classes, but there are UvA students scoring goals at World Cups. Need some inspiration? Noor de Baat is full of it. De Baat is a midfielder of the national Dutch hockey team U21 that is currently playing a World Cup in South Africa. The team just made it to the quarter-finals! De Baat normally has four of five training sessions per week, next to two strength training sessions. On top of that, she is doing her bachelor’s. A secret celebrity at USC: sports physician Liesbeth Lim

Sports physician Liesbeth Lim visited European championships, world championships and world cups with the national gymnastics team, accompanied well-known synchronized swimmers Noortje and Bregje de Brouwer to the Olympics and accompanied many more big names like Yuri van Gelder. Next to that, she stays active: “I dance, I could do a split for you right now! I also do fitness, running and acrobatics.” And that versatile doctor is walking around at USC!
