For those of us for whom weekly borrels and nights in Disco Dolly don’t quite cut it, there is a plethora of underground and alternative nightlife and culture for students seeking everything outside of the ordinary. Whether it be live music, 12-hour raves or even arts and cinema, there is plenty going on.

UvA refuses to sign Amnesty International’s sexual violence manifesto
Human rights organisation Amnesty International has taken its manifesto on sexual violence to the UvA in an effort to get the university to sign the agreement. But the UvA isn’t signing. We spoke to Amnesty Team Leader and UvA student, Stefana Vizman, to find out more.
Back to campus! It’s more complicated than that.
Most, if not all faculties have requested our return back to campus in the second semester for the face-to-face teaching we have lacked over the past two years. Whilst others rejoice over the opportunity to return to normality, for some the decision is not entirely suitable and comes with a few challenges.
A virtual exhibition at CREA
Thanks to the creativity of CREA’s team, we can still enjoy all of the artworks and performances that we were unable to see in person following the last block of courses. The virtual open house offers the chance to cleverly navigate the hallways of CREA through your laptop and indulge in the artistic expressions of fellow students.
Student sex workers: How can they be supported?
A few months ago Durham university hit the headlines with misreporting on its new support system and education program for students engaging in sex work. The controversy has sparked heated online discussion, and led us to ask if student sex workers would like to see something similar at the UvA?
All internationals are rich. Right?
Often international students are considered to be wealthy, from a middle or upper-class family, where mummy and daddy pay for their opportunities abroad. Admittedly, the stereotype is often correct. But that doesn’t mean it is the case for everyone.
So, what can we do?
With some recent changes in the rules, there are a few more options available to students who are looking to forgo the winter blues with some art and entertainment. Never forgetting the age-old Amsterdam classics such as flea markets and parks.
