The Law Student Council (Faculteit der Rechtsgeleerdheid, FdR) represents the department of Law and PPLE (Politics, Psychology, Law, Economics). The Council of the Faculty is distributed as follows: 12 seats divided into 8 Law students and 4 PPLE ones. On April 1st, whoever passed by the Maagdenhuis, would notice that approximately 100 people were gathered in front of the building to demonstrate our future as junior lecturers. Who were they? Our junior lecturers. What were they doing? ‘Defending our tutoring rights’, a member of the organizational committee Casual UvA explained. What are they requesting and how does this strike influence our university life, my fellow students? We talked to two tutors and Casual UvA to get some answers!

After the sharp fall during the 2017 national elections and the mediocre result during the 2021 national elections, the PvdA (the Labour Party) has been trying to get itself together again. The upcoming municipal elections will show if these efforts will prove to be successful. To gain a better insight into the PvdA, I interview Bowien Wegman, who is the number 10 for PvdA Haarlem.

In the mind of most people, CDA is a party for old Protestants and Catholics living in small towns and villages, far away from cities like Amsterdam. However, a closer look would prove this stereotype wrong. In the coming municipal elections, CDA will be the party with the highest amount of young candidates under thirty. One of these new young candidates is the 19 years old Imran Cherradi Benssebahe.

Even though the Eurofederalist party Volt is a newcomer in Dutch politics, it has already been doing better than expected. After winning three seats in the Second Chamber during the 2021 election, for a large part thanks to students voting, the party has consistently been doing well in the polls. In the Amsterdam municipal elections, Volt is now polling around 6%. To get a better idea of what this new party wants for Amsterdam, I interviewed Ian Hendriks, who is eighth on the list for Volt in Amsterdam.

On March 16th 2022, all municipalities in the Netherlands will hold municipal elections. In Amsterdam, there is much to choose from, as 26 parties will be running in the elections. This diverse bunch of parties offer something for everyone, as the choice does not just limit itself to the standard centre-left and centre-right parties, but also includes diverse political groupings such as nationalists, socialists, greens Euro-federalists, animal-rights activists, youth movements, and republicans. Picking one party can be a daunting choice, but luckily I am here to help. Read along! I will guide you through the different ways of orienting yourself and deciding which party fits you the best.
