Last week I went to Studio K for the first time to have dinner and watch a new film. Studio K is one of Kriterion's branches, an art-house movie theatre and café located on the East side of Amsterdam. But, Kriterion is more than just a café.

Eat what you preach: Food consumption and equality at the UvA
For so long, universities have been considered to be the real producers of knowledge, monolithic institutions with access to the ‘meaning’ of life. In pursuing meaning, we have learnt to question everything around us. Nowadays, we can, too, question what we know about the knowledge that we consume on a daily basis; what do we know about the products that we consume? In many cases, we will have to face the fact that we do not know. In others, we will have to face the fact that not everybody is willing to know.

A love letter to the P.C. Hoofthuis: finding a deeper meaning in the unaesthetic
On the 17th of February former YOUvA Today writer Matthew Uy published an article detailing a critique of the P.C. Hoofthuis, one of, if not the most divisive building the university has to offer. The article consisted of the usual flak the PC endures some but not all of which are: it’s ugly, the way the space is laid out is confusing, and it’s cramped. I’m here to offer a rebuttal, not only is the PC one of the best buildings the university of Amsterdam has to offer, but it might also be the last pillar left standing in the fight against the commercialization of the UvA

Students Demand that UvA cuts all ties with Shell.
On the 23rd of May, led by University Rebellion UvA, supported by numerous organisations such as Extinction Rebellion, students demanded, through a manifestation, that the UvA cuts ties with Shell and stops its bonds with colonial practices.

UvA stand up nights
It’s happened to most of us international students, right? Your dutch friend is talking about this great show they went to, this brilliant performer they saw, and oh, if only they could have taken you along… except you don’t speak the language. Maybe you gave up trying to find some good -and affordable- English-language entertainment after the twenty-third google search, but for those still holding out hope so late in the year, one UvA student group was proud to present its first Stand Up Comedy Night on Thursday at the Boom Chicago bar. But was it worth the 8 euro ticket?
