By now you probably noticed that there’s a CREA show going on about every week, whether it’s dancing, singing or comedy, the students of CREA courses get the chance to showcase their hard-earned skills in front of their loved ones, friends, family, and of course, one random YOUvA Today journalist: yours truly. After all, no true passion project is complete without the unsolicited judgment of strangers on the internet. So, without further ado, here are our thoughts on the 'Movement into focus' show at CREA this Saturday.

The sound of CREA
Ready for some tunes? CREA sure was! After our dear friend COVID-19 once again ruined the last band evening, on the 17th of June it was finally possible for all bands stemming out of the CREA ‘pop course’ to perform… and perform they did!

Student politics at the UvA: For the people, by the people?
In late May student elections were once again held and the results are in. On average 15% of the student voted for their faculty councils and 11% of total students voted for the Central Student Council (CSR). Or about 6.500 and 4.510 students respectively. A shockingly low number that in any democracy would lead to questions about the system. This all leads to the question: what can the UvA do to increase student participation?

Memes at the UvA
If you’ve found this article and are reading it from any device other than a fax machine you are probably aware of memes, and it would probably not be a stretch to assume that you’re also familiar with @uva_meme, @uva.memes.faculty, or any of the other active and inactive pages dedicated to immortalizing the struggles of Amsterdam student life. Separate faculties even have their own pages, like @uvaeconmemes and @uvapoliscimemes, where memes get even more specific, engaging students and faculty alike.

This Tuesday, the UvA and HvA concluded their Green Weeks period (21 April – 31 May) with a big final event, featuring a roundtable debate with representatives from the universities’ boards. Although roundtable debates can be quite a stuffy affair, this time it was different as multiple audience members expressed their disappointment with UvA’s passive approach to climate action policies. 'Why is there not a mandatory course on climate change and ethics?' asked one teacher. 'Good question' replied a board member.
